When it comes to cabinet refacing ideas, your imagination is the limit. Whether you choose to simply coat the cabinet doors with a fresh coat of paint, purchase new hardware, or strip the surfaces and coat them with a veneer or gloss, cabinet refacing is by far the easiest and least expensive way to give your kitchen a new look.
If you want to take your cabinet refacing project to the next level, consider adding a glass panel to one or more of the cabinet doors. You can use either real glass or a sheet of plexiglass to create the panel, depending on your preference. Adding a glass panel to your cabinets does require some patience, coordination, and skill; however, the results are well worth the effort.
The first thing to decide before adding a glass panel is how many of the panels you want to do. Many people choose to install panels in every other cabinet door, while others decide to only add one or two glass panels on prominent doors. Once you've decided how many panels to install, it's time to get started.
The first step in installation is to ready the cabinet surface. Remove the doors from each cabinet, then use a pen and paper to make a template for the glass panel. The next step is to attach the glass to the cabinet doors. Using a reciprocating saw, you must cut along the template outline you've previously marked. Then insert the glass behind the front of the door and attach it using a screwed-in clip on each side of the glass. You may wish to add an extra clip at the top for extra protection. Once you've reattached the doors, your project is finished!
